Mia Khalifa is a Lebanese-American internet personality and former adult-film performer who became one of the most searched names in the adult entertainment industry after a very short career in 2014–2015. Despite working in the industry for only around three months, her online popularity continued for years.
Mia Khalifa Early Life and Family
Mia Khalifa was born Sarah Joe Chamoun on February 10, 1993, in Beirut, Lebanon. She moved with her family to the United States in 2001 and later attended the University of Texas at El Paso, where she earned a degree in History.
She has spoken publicly about having a difficult relationship with her family after they discovered her adult-film career. In interviews, she said that her parents rejected or distanced themselves from her after discovering what she had done.
Before entering the adult industry, Khalifa had worked ordinary jobs and later moved to Miami. She has said that at the time she was looking for validation, had recently lost significant weight and wanted to experience something rebellious.
When Did Mia Khalifa Enter the Adult Industry?
Mia Khalifa entered the adult entertainment industry in October 2014, when she was 21. According to her own later accounts, a man approached her in Miami and asked whether she was interested in modeling. The opportunity eventually led to adult-film work.
Her career was extremely short. She has stated that she filmed for approximately three months and left the industry in early 2015. She later described the experience as something she initially viewed as a rebellious phase rather than a long-term career.
What Made Mia Khalifa Famous?
Khalifa became internationally famous after a controversial adult-film scene involving a hijab. The scene generated enormous attention across the Middle East and internationally.
Rather than remaining a private adult performer, she suddenly became a global news story. According to reporting based on Pornhub data, searches for her increased dramatically in January 2015, and she became the site’s most-searched performer at the time.
The controversy also brought threats and intense criticism, particularly because of the religious imagery used in the scene. This publicity ultimately contributed to her decision to leave the industry.
How Much Did Mia Khalifa Earn?
One of the biggest misconceptions about Mia Khalifa is that her short adult-film career made her extremely wealthy.
In 2019, Khalifa said that she earned approximately $12,000 in total from her adult-film work and did not receive continuing royalties from the videos after leaving. The Washington Post reported that the approximate payment worked out to around $1,000 per scene, which was described as a standard type of studio compensation.
However, BangBros later disputed her account, claiming that Khalifa had received more than $178,000 from the company and affiliated entities. Because the two sides gave different figures, the exact amount she earned from the overall relationship remains disputed.
Importantly, the enormous amount of traffic generated by her videos did not mean that she personally received the same amount of money.
Did Mia Khalifa Quit Porn?
Yes. Mia Khalifa left the adult-film industry in early 2015, after roughly three months of filming. She subsequently moved into other work, including sports-related media and internet entertainment.
Although she left the industry, her old videos continued to generate enormous search interest. In 2016, xHamster reported that she was its most-searched adult performer, and she remained highly ranked on Pornhub even years after retiring.
Mia Khalifa’s Most Famous Video
Her most famous and controversial scene is the one in which she appears wearing a hijab. It became the defining moment of her brief adult-film career and was responsible for much of the international attention surrounding her.
I won’t reproduce or describe the sexual content of the scene, but historically it is the production most strongly associated with her name.
What Did Mia Khalifa Do After Leaving?
After leaving adult films, Khalifa attempted to distance herself from that career and moved toward mainstream internet and sports-related media. She worked as a paralegal and bookkeeper before becoming involved in sports commentary and online entertainment.
Her past nevertheless continued to follow her because old videos remained online. She has repeatedly spoken about wanting greater control over her image and the continued commercial use of material from her brief career.
Mia Khalifa’s Legacy
Mia Khalifa’s story is unusual because she spent only a very short period in the adult industry but became one of the most recognizable names associated with it.
Her fame was driven not simply by the number of scenes she appeared in, but by the extraordinary amount of internet attention surrounding her. Her case also became part of broader discussions about online permanence, performer contracts, royalties, privacy and the difficulty of removing old internet content.
Today, she is better described as an internet personality and former adult-film performer rather than a current adult-film actress.
